In November 2025, the HE Science Foundation officially launched the nomination process for the second annual HE Research Fellowship program, continuing to focus on the fields of medical and life sciences, energy, environment, and climate change. The program aims to support young scientists in the early stages of their careers, helping them achieve major breakthroughs in applied basic research to address the challenges humanity will face in the coming decades or even centuries.

Focusing on the Future, Supporting the Growth of Young Scientists

The HE Science Foundation is a non-profit organization established in May 2023 by Mr. HE Xiangjian, founder of Midea Group, with a personal donation of RMB 3 billion. It is operated by Guangdong Meize Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd.. The HE Research Fellowship is one of the core programs of the foundation, undertaken by the Meize Science Development Center of Shunde District, Foshan City. The program is dedicated to supporting young scientists, promoting scientific exploration and technological innovation, and contributing to solving global challenges.

Since the program first launched in 2024, it has attracted outstanding young scientists from across the country. After rigorous nomination, evaluation, review and selection processes, 20 young scientists were selected, covering the fields of medical and life sciences; energy, environment, and climate change. Their research spans cutting-edge areas such as cancer diagnosis and treatment, gene editing, infection and immunity, targeting medications, clean energy development, and climate change mitigation, etc. showcasing the immense potential of young scientists in basic research and applied innovation.

Highlights of the Second Annual Program

Building on the success of the first launch of program, the second annual program of the HE Research Fellowship has further optimized its regulations and evaluation process to ensure fairness, scientific rigor, and authoritativeness.

Funding Scale: A maximum of 20 recipients will be funded annually, with each project receiving RMB 2 millions, distributed over three years.

Eligibility: The program targets young researchers working full-time in universities and research institutes in China. Nominees must be 35 years old or younger (female candidates may be up to 38 years old). For nominees with a clinical medicine background, the age limit is extended to 40 years old (female candidates may be up to 43 years old).

Research Fields: The program focuses on medical and life sciences; energy, environment, and climate change, supporting innovative and interdisciplinary research in scientific exploration, technological breakthroughs, and engineering practices.

Evaluation Process: The evaluation process strictly follows the process of "Nomination institution submits materials - Secretariat conducts administrative review - Peer review by experts - Evaluation committee review - Council approval - Announcement of award recipients", ensuring objectivity, fairness, and professionalism.

Nomination Process Officially Launched

The nomination process for the second annual HE Research Fellowship program officially began in November 2025. Nominating institutions are required to recommend eligible candidates in accordance with the program regulations and guidelines. The nomination deadline is early February 2026, and the evaluation and selection results are expected to be announced in September 2026. The list of award recipients will be posted on the official website of the HE Science Foundation and its WeChat official account.
